4/12/16 – Area residents join Cycle St. Louis for “A Morning at Grant’s Farm” on April 9

On Saturday, April 9, residents from around the metro area gathered at Grant’s Farm for a special event hosted by Cycle St. Louis, a new organization formed by several nonprofit groups in an effort to create cycling opportunities for children and adults with disabilities. The free event, called “A Morning at Grant’s Farm,” featured cycle assessments, along with helmet fittings and a bicycle education safety course. Attendees were also treated to games, snacks, a Clydesdale showing and a walk or ride along Grant’s Trail, which lies in Great Rivers Greenway’s Gravois Greenway.

Several bicycle options exist for people with limited mobility, visual impairments and balance issues. Through cycle assessments, Cycle St. Louis can help residents identify which type of bike would be the best fit so they can get outside, explore and have fun riding with friends and family. For residents who do not own a bicycle, Cycle St. Louis provides information about adaptive bike rentals, sharing programs and agency-based services. Information about funding and where to purchase bicycles was also available at the event.

The organizations that make up Cycle St. Louis include: Great Rivers Greenway, Big Shark Bicycle Company, St. Louis Children’s Hospital Cerebral Palsy Sports and Rehabilitation, the Disabled Athlete Sports Association, Delta Gamma Center for Children with Visual Impairments, the Down Syndrome Association of Greater St. Louis, eSpecial Needs, KEEN-Kids Enjoying Exercise Now, Kirkwood Neighbors Unite-Ability, LifeBridge Partnership, OASIS, Ranken Jordan Pediatric Bridge Hospital, the Recreation Council of Greater St. Louis, St. Louis Arc, St. Louis Bicycle Works, St. Louis County Parks & Recreation, Special Olympics Missouri, and TASK-Team Activities for Special Kids.
