If children across the St. Louis region actually consumed all of the candy collected on Halloween night, local smiles could turn into a real fright fest. HealthWorks! Kids’ Museum St. Louis is therefore encouraging children to exchange portions of unopened Halloween candy for chances to win a variety of different prize packages that encourage health habits and active play at “The Great Candy Exchange.” The event will feature an action-packed afternoon of healthy fun on Sunday, Nov. 6, from noon to 4 p.m. Admission to HealthWorks! Kids’ Museum St. Louis is free during this event.
Each exchanged pound of candy will be worth one raffle ticket for the prize drawings. The more candy exchanged, the more chances kids will have to win prize packages, like the Ultimate Attractions Package which includes admission tickets to venues all over Saint Louis. The afternoon will also feature special programming in the museum’s theatres and the ability for visitors to gain access to all of the new interactive exhibits. Classrooms, clubs, organizations and teams can also get involved. The school or group with the most candy collected will win an all school assembly.
“Halloween is synonymous with the over-consumption of candy, and while it is okay to indulge for an evening, it’s simply not a good idea to have a sack full of sugar sitting around until Thanksgiving.” commented Shannon Woodcock, president and CEO of HealthWorks! Kids’ Museum St. Louis. “Instead, children can pick a handful of their favorites to be eaten in moderation, and then exchange the rest during the event. To help further sweeten the deal, the candy collected will be sent to U.S. military troops, along with toothbrushes, in an effort to spread smiles and demonstrate our appreciation.”
“The Great Candy Exchange” is made possible thanks to Delta Dental of Missouri, Pediatric Dentistry of Sunset Hills Arnold and Wentzville Locations, Schnucks, Crest Oral B and USO Missouri.
Prior to Halloween on Oct. 29 and 30, HealthWorks! Kids’ Museum St. Louis guests can check out a special interactive “Healthy Horror” exhibit featuring grossly, healthy activities. The exhibit will be available during regular operating hours.
HealthWorks! Kids’ Museum St. Louis is located at 1100 Macklind Ave, near the Saint Louis Science Center. Admission is $7 per person and free for those two-years-old and younger. Parking is free. HealthWorks! Kids’ Museum St. Louis came into existence as a result of efforts to expand The Delta Dental Health Theatre to address broader, overall health issues after Delta Dental of Missouri became a major corporate sponsor in 2004. Those plans evolved and grew more ambitious over the next several years, ultimately leading to the closure of the original theatre on Laclede’s Landing in downtown St. Louis after 38 years so it could be housed in the new, dramatically expanded museum. The Delta Dental Health Theatre was originally organized as a program under the Foundation of the Greater St. Louis Dental Society in 1977. In 2002, it was incorporated as an independent 501(c) (3) not-for-profit organization. HealthWorks! Kids’ Museum St. Louis opened in May of this year.
