5/8/18 – WGU Missouri Announces $50,000 In Scholarships For Current Or Aspiring Teachers

In recognition of Teacher Appreciation Week, WGU Missouri is offering 25 scholarships, totaling $50,000, to current and aspiring teachers seeking a bachelor’s or master’s degree in education. New students can apply for these scholarships now through June 30 at missouri.wgu.edu/tuition_financial_aid/scholarships/teacher_appreciation.

Each WGU Teacher Appreciation Scholarship is valued at up to $2,000, which is applied at the rate of $500 per six-month term for up to four consecutive terms. To be eligible, scholarship applicants must be officially admitted to WGU Missouri, complete the scholarship application, and be interviewed by a WGU scholarship counselor.

Recipients will be selected based on their academic records, financial need and readiness for online study at WGU Missouri, among other considerations. In addition to the scholarship, WGU Missouri is also waiving the $65 application fee for prospective students who apply to a Teachers College degree program by June 30 by using the code NOWFREE.

“WGU Missouri provided me with rigorous courses and knowledgeable student and course mentors who guided me through my program,” said Kiara Bell, a teacher in the Riverview School District, who earned a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies, K-8, from WGU Missouri in 2017 and is currently working on her M.S. in curriculum and instruction. “From the general education courses to the demonstration teaching, I felt as if I was being prepped for a career in the education field since day one and because of the tools that WGU provided me with, I was able to land a job as a third-grade teacher before I graduated.”

WGU Missouri’s Teachers College is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and offers more than 30 bachelor’s, master’s, post-baccalaureate and endorsement-preparation programs. The college is ranked among the nation’s top one percent of secondary math education programs by the National Council on Teacher Quality (NCTQ). In addition, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) recognized WGU’s four mathematics programs and the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) recognized WGU’s eight science programs – highlighting the quality education offered to WGU Missouri students.

“WGU Missouri definitely helped me meet my goals,” added Bell. “I have my own classroom; I’m making money, and I have my dream job. My advice to others considering WGU Missouri is go do it now, and don’t wait. It’s affordable, flexible and you are in complete control.”
