Event Will Serve as the Public’s First Opportunity to Hear Results of the Assessment
To actively address local challenges and continue to help the community regain confidence in safe and secure rides aboard MetroLink, an eight-month, $400,000 MetroLink Security Assessment was administered last year. The assessment has been completed, and final security recommendations will be announced later this month. In an effort to share the results for the first time publicly, Citizens for Modern Transit (CMT) is inviting area residents to take part in a special “Talking Transit” event where local stakeholders will weigh in on the results and discuss next steps for the St. Louis region. The discussion, sponsored in part by the St. Louis Regional Chamber and East-West Gateway Council of Governments, will be held on Friday, March 1, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the St. Louis Regional Chamber’s Collaboration Center, located at One Metropolitan Square, St. Louis, MO 63101. The building is accessible by MetroLink and MetroBus.
The MetroLink Security Assessment was authorized by the East-West Gateway Council of Governments in March 2018 and led by the New-York based consulting firm WSP USA, Inc. The goal of the assessment was to take a comprehensive look at current security policies on MetroLink and develop a plan for improvements related to technology, environmental design and human capital deployment. Lurae Stuart, project manager of WSP USA, Inc., will provide a brief overview of the MetroLink Security Assessment recommendations, before a panel discussion gets underway. Panelists will include Jim Wild, executive director of East-West Gateway Council of Governments; Taulby Roach, president and CEO of Bi-State Development; Kathy Osborn, the President and CEO of the Regional Business Council, and June McAllister Fowler, Citizens for Modern Transit Board Chair.
“East-West Gateway Council of Governments and their consulting team, WSP USA, are to be commended for the time and hard work put into the MetroLink Security Assessment,” said Kimberly Cella, executive director of Citizens for Modern Transit. “We are looking forward to this panel discussion, next steps and the opportunity to further increase transit safety and security.”
Registration for the Talking Transit event can be completed online at https://cmt-stl.org/ or by arriving early to the event. The cost is free for CMT members and $10 for non-members.
