$2,000 scholarships announced in honor of National Nurses Week 2016
In recognition of National Nurses Week 2016, which runs from May 6 -May 12, and to honor nurses for their commitment to community health, nonprofit online university WGU Missouri is launching the WGU Loves Nurses Scholarship through July 31, 2016. Several scholarships will be awarded to motivated nurses who wish to pursue a bachelor’s or master’s degree through WGU Missouri’s College of Health Professions.
WGU Missouri nurse Justine Edwards received a scholarship last year during National Nurses Week and is leveraging WGU Missouri’s competency-based learning model to earn her BSN and MSN in two years.
“Going back to school isn’t an easy choice when you’re a full-time single mother and full-time nurse,” said Edwards. “To add full-time student to the mix was a scary decision. WGU Missouri has given me the opportunity to earn my BSN and achieve my ultimate goal of getting my MSN while maintaining balance in my life.”
WGU Missouri’s degree programs are designed to provide the kind of flexibility that nontraditional students need. Its competency-based education model measures learning rather than time spent in class. Students complete their program requirements based on their prior work experience and academic knowledge, allowing them to accelerate through subject matter they already know so they can focus on what they still need to learn. Because WGU Missouri’s online degree programs are flexible and terms begin on the first day of any month, students are able to schedule their studies around their busy lives.
Each WGU Loves Nurses Scholarship is valued at up to $2,000, and the final deadline to apply is July 31, 2016. Eligible applicants must be licensed RNs, complete an application for admission to WGU Missouri, complete the scholarship application including an essay portion, and participate in an interview with a WGU scholarship counselor. This scholarship is competitive; recipients will be selected based on their academic record, readiness for online study at WGU Missouri, and other considerations.
