11/9/2019 – WGU Missouri Celebrates Veterans Day with $75,000 in Scholarships for Veterans, Military Service Members, and their Families

To honor all those who have served our country as Veterans Day approaches, nonprofit, online university WGU Missouri has announced it is offering $75,000 in scholarships for veterans, active-duty military, reservists, and military family members who want to further their education. The WGU Missouri Salute to Veterans Scholarship can be applied to any of the university’s 60+ bachelor’s or master’s degree programs in the high-demand fields of IT, business, K-12 education, and health professions, including nursing. Applications are now being accepted through Dec. 31, 2018.

WGU Missouri will award up to 25 scholarships to new students throughout the state. Each WGU Missouri Salute to Veterans Scholarship is valued at up to $3,000 per student and will be applied at the rate of $750 per six-month term, renewable for up to four terms.

“WGU Missouri has made it possible for me to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Special Education,” said Therese Meres a recent graduate and Airforce veteran. “I’ve been able to get an amazing, affordable education and complete my coursework on my schedule, while juggling all the other demands of life.”

WGU Missouri has been recognized for 11 consecutive years by Military Advanced Education & Transition as a “Top School” and for seven consecutive years as a Military Friendly® School. Of the 3,023 students currently enrolled at WGU Missouri, about 11 percent are active-duty military personnel, veterans, or dependent family members of military personnel.

All WGU Missouri programs are competency-based, providing the flexibility veterans and their families need. Designed to meet the needs of adult learners, competency-based education allows students to take advantage of their knowledge and real-world experience to move quickly through material they already know so they can focus on what they still need to learn. WGU Missouri faculty members work one-on-one with students as mentors, offering guidance, support and individualized instruction. While the university’s degree programs are rigorous and challenging, competency-based learning makes it possible for students to accelerate their programs, saving both time and money.

The WGU Missouri Salute to Veterans Scholarship is open to new students who have been officially admitted to WGU Missouri and qualify as active-duty or retired military, U.S. military veterans, reservists, or military spouses or children. While multiple scholarships will be awarded, this is a competitive program, and scholarships will be awarded based on a candidate’s academic record, readiness for online study, and current competency, as well as other considerations.
